lust & found: alexa chung x madewell

i have to say, i'm not usually a big fan of celebrity x fashion retailer collaborations, as quite often the quality and design just doesn't match up to the price point and hype. but i couldn't help stopping by the Madewell boutique in soho this afternoon and fell in love with the annie blouse and high-waisted skinny jeans. while i've fully come to terms with the fact that i'll not magically get AC's endless legs just by putting on these jeans, they are actually 1) incredibly comfortable, 2) fit quite well and 3) are slimming without being restricting. i'm also still having a major polka dot moment this fall, so my alexa chung x madewell pieces will be in good company with my steven alan 'pretty woman' dress and buttondown...

alexa chung x madewell 'annie' blouse & 'christian' skinny jeans + martin margiela tango decollete pumps. am cuffing the jeans for now to show off the polka-dot lining (!).

*fit: i'm wearing the 'annie' blouse in the x-small and the jeans in the 25. i also tried on the 'hello' bat tee as well as the silk polka dot tea dresses. the bat tee was cute, but i couldn't justify $48 for a tee. the tea dresses were lovely and well made - i liked the more substantial silk they used, and the pintucks and pleating added some nice structure to a pretty dress that would go well with blazers and leather jackets this fall. i'm not too crazy about the elastic-gathered waistbands in the dresses, but i found the fit in the collection to be generally true to size, although the blouses are definitely roomy.

*fabrics: one of the things i really like about the AC x MW collab is that many of the pieces are made of natural fabrics. whereas other high profile celebrity collections have featured an overabundance of polyester and other icky synthetics, the blouses and dresses in the AC collection are generally 100% silk or silk-rayon blends (the velvet pieces). additionally, the greta coat is a wool/nylon/cashmere blend.

please do share your thoughts on the collection,  and if you have any favorites! :)

  1. What a super outfit that is – it's nice to see that these pieces look great on people who aren't Alexa!

If only Madewell shipped to the UK... I very much have my eye on a mustardy coloured shirt.

  2. Those pieces look absolutely fantastic on you!

I went into the store yesterday and bought the Iris blouse and the Tennessee dress (I also ordered the Greta coat last week). The jeans are so lovely, but were a bit too high-waisted for me, I wish I could have pulled them off. My only complaint thus far is that the Iris blouse runs a bit short. I wore it tucked into mid-rise jeans today and it kept coming untucked at the sides. Oh well!

  3. slubhan - thanks :) hopefully madewell will stock the AC collection for UK/European customers too.

jennifer - i was surprised that i liked the high-rise jeans so much! i also had to control myself from wanting to get the tea dress and one of the iris blouses. i think i'm going to experiment with tucking in various blouses and shirts this season - am a bit obsessed with these jeans right now and can't wait till it's cold enough to wear boots with them all the time!

  4. Those pieces look amazing on you. I'm dying to try the jeans. I LOVE Madewell denim in general so I'm sure I'll love these! The collection is great as a whole, but I'm obsessed with the velvet blouse -- obsessed!

  5. style bite: the jeans from the collab are really good. it's a lighter weight denim so it's perfect for tucking in boots or for the transitional seasons. i have a feeling i'm going to be wearing these A LOT!
