reconsidering

this photo from garance dore's lovely blog from this past spring is making me reconsider returning my alexa chung x madewell greta coat...

  1. just a thought, but did you try pairing the coat with wide leg or straight cut pants instead of skinny denim? like Grechen said, the coat looks a bit oversized on you, but it seems to have to do with the skinny jeans' proportion, too.

  2. i haven't yet, but that's a good idea! i've test-styled the coat with some thicker sweaters and it actually is cut well for layering, i think i might take some more pics with different pant/jean silhouettes to compare.

i think this particular photo from garance's blog is inspiring as it shows how a boxier and menswearish cut can still work really well. :)

  3. I just checked out your Madewell coat's post, I think it looked stylish... :)

  4. I think your coat's slightly oversized fit is pretty ideal. I think I'd prefer it paired with skinny jeans to make its fit as pronounced as possible.

  5. thanks, sarah! :) i just returned one of the AC x MW blouses i got (the polka dot velvet one), so am feeling better about probably keeping the coat. the important thing is i think that even though the coat is cut a bit boyfriendish and boxy throughout, the sleeves hit exactly at my wrist so they're definitely not too long...

  6. have you decided if you'll keep the coat yet? i still have mixed feelings about mine. i just bought an isabel marant coat and am trying to decide which one to keep.

  7. jennifer - i think i am going to keep the coat! it's been hanging on my coat rack for the past two weeks, and i think it's a matter of accomodating to the overall silhouette of the style. i think it's the blazer details on the coat that initially threw me off; it looks like its supposed to be more fitted, but it's not all that oversized really. this is one of those things that can go either way...i i feel like if the coat had a Margiela label instead of MW it would appear to have much more as an 'avant-garde' fit.
