the gift guide {warm and cozy edition}

warmncozy

1. Ugg classic short boots - toasty and luxe indoors and out

2. play by Comme des Garcons sweater - the quintessential classic with a twist

3. Virginia Johnson wool gauze shawl - warm and chic as both a scarf and a shawl or travel wrap. i also like this one at madewell

4. Bodum teapot - i have this and it's beautifully designed. the special glass keeps your tea hot for quite a while, too

5. J.crew shearling trapper hat - a bit of a splurge, but so worth it as a good hat makes a huge
difference. doesn't this lovely hat make you look forward to blustery winter days? :-)

6. Bodum french press - so breathtakingly gorgeous - like a Deco work of art on your kitchen counter. my Bodum french press makes the best easy mug of fresh coffee in the AM.

7. Sorel caribou snow boots - after years of going through snowy and slushy NYC winters without them, i got a pair last year and they are worth every penny. my review here

8. good drinking chocolate - a winter's eve classic

9. j.crew cashmere socks - thanks to Caroline for reminding me of these luxe favorites!

do you have any favorite cozy go-to gifts?

  3. when I think of cozy, I think of drinking coffee wearing some warm wool socks with a scented candle on and reading a good book.

so gift guide: chemex drip, cashmere socks from j.crew, diptyque candles and extremely loud and incredibly close by jsf.

  4. Those are som great gifts! I like big wool shawls myself, the ones that you can use both as a kind of poncho/wrap and as a scarf. They´ve always been successful presents :) I´d love to be given the tea pot.. And the uggs.. And the chocolate sounds wonderful!

  6. @Jocy yeah, i certainly regret not bringing mine to SH this year. had to get a regular drip coffeemaker. not the same!

  7. @caroline ahh, diptyque candles. i might ask the bf or a friend to bring back one or two for me. a lovely scented candle would be so perfect on a wintry night here.

  8. @Maja Piraja hehe. i love giving gifts that are luxe but still practical. i always worry about giving gifts that end up collecting dust, or worse, re-gifted! :P

  10. love your gift guide. it strikes the right balance between comfort and style.

quick question about the sorel boots: the Bean boots are back-ordered til early January, so now i'm considering the Sorels. my main concern is weight and sole flexibility. i own a pair of Ulus which are so heavy and inflexible.

how long can you walk in the Sorels before feeling like they're dead weight on your feet? is the sole flexible? i find this is key for not slipping as well as maintaining circulation in the toes.

  11. @anabela / fieldguided i know! i've wishlisted the jcrew trapper hat for two years straight now, and every time it sells out super fast. i'd say go for it! :)

  12. @erica last winter when the massive blizzard hit NYC i wore my Sorels out and they were like walking on cushioned pillows. the heavier sole does take a bit getting used to, but the sole is flexible and VERY grippy, excellent for navigating through slush ponds and snow alike. and it was perfectly warm and toasty in the boot and i was wearing just regular socks. they're great! no break-in needed either, which is another huge plus. :)

  14. I am ALL ABOUT cashmere socks. They're affordable and feel so luxurious. When I'm feeling really ambitious, I really enjoy making and gifting knitted socks.

My BFF gifted me a Chemex coffee pot last year. Even though I already have a french press and a drip machine, I use my Chemex the most. It has the same full flavor of a french press but without the sludge.

  19. Excellent pieces - staying warm in the winter is essential, I can't think of anything worse than being cold!

  20. @miss sophie Ahh, good to know on the Sorels- I was worried they would feel moon boots! I too have been debating between waiting for the Bean boots (I wore them so much the past few years that they finally got a hole) and just going for the Sorels. Done and done.

  21. Ahhh this is so cosy I love it! Always wanted a pair of cashmere socks and I actually like wearing my UGGs like slippers because the floors in Hong Kong get super cold in winter. I am working on my Christmas guide now so much fun :)

  22. @T like Bubble ... right? there's something about a damp cold that is so much worse than winters up north!
