i tend to wear a lot of solids and neutral colors in my day-to-day life, so recently i've begun to collect various accessories to keep things interesting. when i was younger, i used to be overly minimalist and would shy away from more 'out there' pieces. now, i'm the exact opposite!
H&M tee, 360 cashmere cardigan, isabel marant scarf, 7 for all mankind jeans, Boyy bag, isabel marant dicker boots (also here; lower price alternatives here)
the sides of the Boyy bag unzip or zip up depending on how much space you need. i'm wearing it here in expanded mode, and it pretty much holds everything that my Balenciaga City holds. there's even room for a (non-compact) umbrella!

the Boyy slash bag is such a new classic in my opinion. the leather (a finely grained lambskin) and texture of it up close reminds me a bit of the leather on the Proenza Schouler PS1 bags, except Boyy's leather feels thicker and more durable. the hardware and chain straps have a nice, substantial feel to them without being heavy - exactly how you'd want them to be. best of all, you can wear it three ways:
1. shoulder or crossbody with the leopard flap out
2. a more low-key version, folded over with the leather side out
3. an oversized clutch with the chain strap detached
it's a very chic, well-made bag all around with utilitarian attention to detail. if you're considering one, i highly recommend it!

I love statement accessories too - keeps things interesting. Your cuffs are amazing by the way :)
ReplyDeleteI was wondering - do you find that the dye from your jeans rubs off on your handbags?
thanks! :D the cuffs are oddly 'cozy' for bare wrists in the chilly winter right now :)
Deletei haven't had issues with dye transfer, though i also avoid buying light bags for this very reason. other bloggers have mentioned this problem though.
Nice ensemble! It makes me realize that I really need to think more about accessories. Usually I'm getting dressed in such a rush that I hardly have time to put on make-up before running out the door!
ReplyDeletethanks! accessories are so fun and i like to think you get a lot of cost-per-wear out of them...since i don't wear makeup i just swipe on some lip balm and will try to throw on some accessories if i'm rushing out the door.
DeleteVery cute bag! I agree with that pop of print or color--it definitely freshens up an otherwise somber outfit. I often find that I have a lot of difficulty dressing in all neutrals or solids and not looking severe. I think it's a combination of my age (I think people still think of a young-ish girl in all dark colors as 'goth') and my love of clean edges and opaque fabrics. I think, sometimes, I give off the impression that I don't have a sense of humor when it comes to my closet! I've recently found colorful nail polish is a fun and cheap way to inject some fun into my look...but I would love something funky like a see through Furla bag or something really far out!
ReplyDeletemmm, i know what you mean. i like bringing opposite elements together in my wardrobe. i suppose my personality is both a bit brash and low-key, so i choose my accessories and ensemble accordingly :)
DeleteThat really is a nice bag! And I love the bottle green color, I have wanted a piece of clothing or accessory in that color for ages but I have never found anything that I liked. Great find :)
ReplyDeleteI just recently ordered a black leather backpack for myself, because apparently I am 70 and my back is starting to hate me for wearing heavy shoulder bags all the time. I´m a little skeptical, but hey - if Alexander Wang can design a backpack then I sure as hell can wear one. It isn´t Wang, but pretty snazzy nontheless ;)
thanks Maja! it was definitely a lucky find. i'd always loved Boyy bags but everything clicked when i found this leopard version of their slash bag :D
Deletehaha your black backpack sounds pretty handy - especially for travel too! heavy shoulder bags are like high heels, right? :P gotta keep in moderation.
Ah, I ADORE Boyy bags but have never seen that particular one- it's gorgeous and I would never have imaginged how versatile leopard and green could be.
ReplyDeletei know!! in person the Boyy slash bag is even more amazing. the color is a really great greyish slate-green, one of those colors that looks a bit different depending on the light.
DeleteMiss sophie the bag is so trendy and yet so classy.Leopard is so hot this season.Accessories are my focus point lately.
ReplyDeletehey angie - thanks for stopping by! :) i'll be using this bag for a long time yet - it feels very 'me' and i'm glad i finally found that perfect leopard print accessory :D
DeleteWhat do you think of accessories on a man? Conventional wisdom is that male accessories stop with the watch and the wedding band. If male fashion is a cyclical process of tweaking around the edges, what are the accessory tweaks that could work?
ReplyDeletei would think that would all depend on the man! some men are totally into accessories like bags, scarves, colorful socks, cufflinks, other jewelry, etc. i think small details like cufflinks and a tie/bowtie/pocket squares are great ways for guys who are more conservative to add some special details to change up their look. a quality watch, though, is probably an investment piece that every well dressed man should have.
DeleteAhhh I've been eyeing this bag for a long time and now your photos definitely add to the lust. I was wondering how solid the metal chain strap is--I would ideally like to be able to carry an 11" macbook air in the bag but am worried about the weight. I also can't decide between leopard or snakeskin. Let me know what your thoughts are, thanks!
ReplyDeletehey Ming - the metal chain straps are solid. while i'm not sure that the bag is ideally suited for carrying around a laptop, with all my stuff in it that would fit in my Balenciaga City, it definitely weighs more than a macbook air would and everything feels secure. i love leopard and snakeskin. depends on which one you like better. of course i wouldn't mind a snakeskin Boyy slash too, ha!
Deletewhat color are you thinking?
I really don't like this bag, but you wear it well:)
ReplyDeletefair enough! i shall take that as a compliment ;D
Delete*Looks Away*
ReplyDeleteWith Christmas a not-so-distant memory, I desperately need to step away from my credit card and save - but this bag makes my tummy hurt with longing.
It is beautiful, completely and quite utterly.

it is indeed! i hope you can find it on sale somewhere. some boutiques online have it in stock if you google around. :)
DeleteFunny I was thinking that to minimize my wardrobe, to find clothes in basic cuts that are suitable for me in both cut and taste (such as the leather moto vest and skinny trousers) and to balance out the basics, to go louder with accessories which both add more personality and graphic interest to an outfit. Not to mention our apartments in HK are tiny thus I realized I have to cut down anyway or else if my closet of cheaply made garments gets too big I'll be paying a hefty amount for extra square footage to keep it all in.
ReplyDeleteHow silly would that be?
haha, exactly! we can't all be Anna Dello Russo with an extra apartment just for our clothes ;-)
DeleteI can't seem to get the reply button to work, so in response to you:
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for the bag in any combination of black, but right now I can only find the micmac version on sale so it looks like I'll be waiting it out a bit longer.
Unrelated but I've been meaning to ask: were the A.P.C. new cures that you bought unisex or women's sizing? On the A.P.C. website they now have separate listings with different item numbers for mens and womens new cures. Also, how do you think they compare with the petit standards? Thanks for your input!
hey Ming - the new threaded comments has been a bit glitchy but i think i just fixed it finally...so should be working!
DeleteAPC raw denim is all unisex, the only difference is that the women's size has a slightly lower rise i think. i've tried on the petit standards but they were way too baggy and straight-leg for me.
