invested

saint james breton shirt, favorite leather jacket, content vest, uniqlo skinny jeans, isabel marant dicker boots (also here) - lower price alternative here

in heavy rotation these days: the silk/velvety screenprinted Content vest that i scored on sale in October. it goes with everything quite easily in spite of the fact that the entire back of it features a printed scene from a Tarantino movie.

i think there's something so modern about vests (a.k.a. gilets [zsee-lays]) that's ideally suited to how women dress today. it's a great and easy way to add some visual interest or texture to a look, and even if it's a thin layer, the vest functions for warmth nicely without adding bulk. i also love a cropped furry/chunky knit vest of the shearling variety, but am still on the fence about how to wear that without looking like i've thrown on a shaggy bathmat.

after a year of constant wear, the IM dickers are still in excellent shape - they're a lot less delicate than they look. ditto for my balenciaga city, which only seems to get better with age. picky splurgers take note: these two items are definitely time-tested investment buys!

what are you wearing a lot these days?

  3. I kind of feel the same about anything shaggy or furry.... are you a Star Wars fan?
In my book... shaggy vest = bantha and furry jacket = wookiee :)

    1. haha i vaguely know what you're referring to (not a SW fan really but certain images stick with me), there are just too many funny references one can get from a shaggy fur vest!

  4. Oooh, I like your new threaded comments! You just have to love investment purchases. I´m still a bit overprotective about my Bayswater, but seeing as I walk to work every day in all kinds of dreadful weather I like to think that it is allowed and that I will use it more often when spring comes :)

    1. thanks! the new threaded comments feature is a bit glitchy still :P it's not working at all when i use chrome, but seems to work for firefox. hope they fix whatever it is soon.

oh your bays will age wonderfully! what color/leather is it?

  5. I LOVE me a good vest. Usually its my purple-maroonish puffer from J. Crew that I can't seem to take off but I've also been wearing a thin grey cashmere one too. They are indeed wonderful for layering, are practical, and can edge up an outfit. Both your vests look great.
I was able to save up enough to finally purchase a pair of the taupe Dickers. They are so, so beautiful and though I still need to take them to the cobbler for sole protecting, I'm obsessed just taking them out of the box and stroking them! (yes, NERD alert for sure!) I wanted to ask you if your taupe pair looked more on the brownish side rather than the neutral/tan side in color. Its difficult to tell from online pics but I swear this season's taupe looks alittle more brown in person than a true taupe to me. No matter though, I love them!

    1. my dicker boots were a slightly greenish taupe actually. i think the color varies from season to season. so glad you got a pair! :-)

  6. Layering the vest over a jacket looks so chic and practical...and what Tarantino movie is that on the vest?

I've been wearing my grey cotton knit jumper a lot lately, whenever it's cool enough. I like how they go with everything and it just seems to convey the feeling I want to convey lately, if that makes sense...

    1. according to one of my commenters it's from 'Death Proof', with Rosario Dawson. sounds pretty signature Tarantino though i've never heard of it.

grey cotton jumper sounds like a wardrobe must. grey really looks good with every complexion!

  10. I agree that you should invest in handbags and boots, both things you use a lot and they can transform your look. I made an investment in my bag, even though it's much more cheaper than the city, and now I use it every day and will last. I don't believe in spending stupid amounts of money on something but I think there are few things that yo need to invest your money in...they only thing you need to make sure is what is your budget to make sure you don't break the bank : )

  11. My Dicker and Dixie boots are really good investments too. So far there's no snow here, so I've been able to wear them a lot more than I usually can during winter.I love your RC boots!

    1. thanks! i only sprayed my Dickers with water repellent suede protector once and it's held up really well. thankfully there's no snow in SH :D

  12. Definitely my leather vest. It's H&M but the cut is an imitation of Acne's. I wear it every day because the 'sleeveless-ness' of it allows me to stuff more layers on with a coat on top! I really love your puffer/leather look though the print of the vest is quite unexpected.

  13. Oooh, great great styling idea regarding the puffer and leather jacket mix!
Honestly, I have always been baffled as to the use of the sleeveless puffer. It's the kind of item that just leaves me braindead considering ways to wear it. The whole too warm or too cold conundrum made it a pointless item till now.
It's indeed a brilliant option to team the puffer and leather, especially in black which gives a very sleek look and you can still wear your leather after the temperatures dropped.
I'm so going to copy that idea. Thanks!! ;))
Just like you, I'm wearing my Balenciaga non stop. Great investment indeed. The IM boots I put aside in favor of her sneakers that I wear almost obsessively on week-ends.
