classic 10 - accessories edition

i've gone through many phases style-wise over the years, but my love of accessories has always stayed relatively consistent. that is, i love a few key pieces and wear them every day, and i like to collect some more outré items for my 'special collection'. now that spring is around the corner and i can peel off some of my winter layers, i'm paying more attention to the finishing touches.

here are my classic 10 accessories.

sleek, practical, really well made, and inexpensive. it's elegant enough for a dressy evening event, yet still low-key for everyday and travel. not to mention i've gotten so many compliments on it!

i love chan luu's colorful wrap bracelets - they're both delicate and substantial - mine has turquoise stones and goes with everything.

3. jade bangle
my mom gave me this years ago, and the jade is originally from Yunnan. i love the natural variations in the stone. it reminds me of my family when i'm far from home, and i always wear it for good luck.
i really only wear stud earrings, and these are indispensable in my wardrobe - just the right balance of subtle sparkle.

i did a post on this last summer, and i wear mine every day - my look isn't complete without it.
6. vintage and costume statement jewelry
as a counterpoint to my minimalist everyday pieces, i really like the opposite for other days and nights out.
i love my Oakleys - they're sporty and stylish and ergonomically designed for the perfect fit. i think my next pair is going to be these Karen Walkers. have been admiring her designs for quite a while now, and i've heard so many good things from fellow bloggers and friends!
infinitely practical for chilly airports, as a colorful accent, or light layer year-round. i love to look for a new one to add to my collection, especially when i'm traveling abroad. you can never have too many colorful scarves and shawls!
9. a fun manicure: i love Essie, Butter London, and the Sally Hansen stick-on kits (how rad is this breton-stripe one??)
the Sally Hansen ones are super easy, really last quite a while, and completely fool-proof :) i think a great manicure adds a great finishing touch, and it's a nice way to pamper yourself too if you get it done at the nail salon.
10. my trusty, completely indestructible CdG wallet + RM keychain zip pouch
keeps everything i need organized and not flying around in my bag or pockets. my CdG wallet is still looking damn good after 5 years or so of being thrown about and heavily used every day. if you only get one CdG item ever, this should be it.

what's on your classic 10 accessories list?

  2. I like how your jewellery spans eras and diverse styles. Personally I can't name 10 accessories - wallet, glasses, sunglasses and watch would be the four I can't live without. Plus any one of my bags to carry them around.

  3. I love your collection of bracelets. I can never seem to pull them off myself - they feel uncomfortable, and they only highlight how skinny my wrists are. As for other jewelry, like you I only wear studs on my ears. I have 3 pairs but one that I wear on a daily basis and others for special occasions. I also have a few dainty necklaces. I'd like to get a longer length chain with a larger pendant but I tend to tire of non-gold jewelry as well.

    1. i have really skinny wrists too, but i like cuffs for that reason - they don't slosh around at my wrist!

  5. Your description of your everyday simple gold jewellery is perfection - exactly how I feel about my everyday jewellery. I have some fun "party pieces" too, but on the most hand I've taken to leaving those in their boxes and wearing a roster of the same couple of pieces: a cord bracelet by van rycke with gold beads, a few thin gold and gunmetal rings (I love the way that gold and gunmetal look together), and my Me and Ro necklace which was a gift from my parents. sometimes I add an extra bangle or an extra necklace but that's pretty much it! Everyday! I read in the recent gentlewoman that a parisienne woman always sleeps in her jewellery, she can't see the point of taking hers off to put it all back on again the next day. I like that - but Id be too afraid of it falling off or something haha.

And I love your jade bracelet, I have one too but I hardly ever wear it now. Yours reminds me to get it back out again. It always makes me think of my grandparents and Hong Kong.

    Fantastic post! I loved this.

    1. i love to mix metals too - i never understood that whole rule about sticking to all gold or silver or whatever. i used to never take off my necklace when i was younger but that resulted in me breaking quite a few delicate chains from sports or being clumsy :P

my jade bracelet is such a great sentimental piece. i don't have too many of those in my collection and i really treasure it for that reason.

  7. I love your pink leopard scarf! Your ten items are really nice, and it is fun to see how these are items that you really do wear a lot in your outfit posts. My trusted workhorse accessories also include a pair of diamond studs - classic on their own, or 2012-ified when worn with a pair of ear cuffs. I also have an amethyst pendant that I wear a lot, and a few rings that I feel naked without. It is funny how much impact these tiny items have :)

P.S: Thank you for telling me about J.Crew's tall range jeans a while back! They just started shipping to Norway this week, so I just got a new go-to place for jeans :)

    1. right? totally makes a difference. if i occasionally leave the house without my basic earrings i feel like a big part of my outfit is missing.

i'm glad the jcrew tall jeans fit you! and lucky you that you never have to get anything hemmed! :)

  8. Such great accessories. I love seeing them all here. I'm with you, I only wear studs and I feel completely undressed without them- I inherited that from my mother.

I've always loved your collection of scarves, so it's great to see it here.

  9. Ah. This post reminded me of my necklace that was stolen right from my neck about three months ago. I've worn it for years and it had a tiny diamond cross pendant. I don't think I'll ever get over that loss.

But on to happier thoughts. I would say my top accessories would be (in no particular order):
    - "Junior" sized men's watch
    - tiny diamond stud earrings, very much like yours
    - Ray Ban Wayfarers
    - Ray Ban Aviators
    - And, although I live in a tropical country, yes, scarves/shawls. I rarely get to use them, but when I do travel, I bring more than I ever get to use.
    - Small round locket on a long gold chain (which I am now too scared to use. Haha)

    1. Kat - oh my gosh, that's terrible! :( well, there are quite a few designers who are making similar designs these days. not that it would be the same as your cherished necklace, but it's at least heartening to know that you can find a suitable replacement...

i love your Ray Bans. such a great old school chic brand :)
