foundations: the summer pant

this is pretty much all i want to wear, all summer long. well, that and a nice silky dress here and there. the recent arrival of humidity here reminds me that on certain oppressively hot days, the airy elastic-waisted summer pant is a godsend. yes, there is a chic way to do an elastic waist!

there's something very chambray-ish about these, which i love. the classic APC clean lines and straight cut means it's got a refined twist to the relaxed design. if i lived in northern California, i could do jeans in the summer. however, Shanghai is way too humid for anything resembling structured pants this time of year.

what do you think of summer pants? and elastic waists? :)

  1. I LOVE the idea of elastic waists and I think that they do look great on some people (including you!). Sadly, I feel like I always look like a midwestern mom from the early 90s in pants like this. :(

When it comes to wearing pants in the oppressive heat, I tend to just suck it up and wear jeans. I don't find it to be that bad as long as they're cuffed and all other articles of clothing are kept light and airy.

  3. A belated note, sorry to hear about the theft of your purse! I know that cold, creeping feeling of horror when I can't find something where it's supposed to be.

I've yet to find elastic waist trousers I like...I think I'm just too old fashioned when it comes to jeans and trousers and a proper waistband is almost always the more flattering option on me.

  5. I'm a huge fan of elastic waist pants actually! Honestly, they can be such a godsend for anyone whose weight fluctuates a bit (as is usually the case post pregnancy). As you can probably guess, mine are all IM and linen ... pants and shorts, so perfect for summer. Although I don't own any, I also love the idea of printed pants in the summer, I guess it's that resort-y aspect of them!

    1. yeah and a diffuse printed slouchy pant is actually quite versatile. they're comfy like pajama pants but still proper enough for outside wear!

  6. It's so oppressively hot here in Southeast Asia. I love elastic waists, but on pants, I always look really Mom-ish. The printed slouchy pants look great on you, by the way. Out here in Cambodia, however, it is too cliche "tourist." I cannot get myself to do it. I must be getting old.

    1. thanks jocy! btw i just added a photo of the apc pants styled on a model - i think they're a lot more wearable than you think :)

ah, if i lived in SE asia i'm sure i wouldn't mind looking touristy - the heat would entirely dictate what i'd wear!

  7. I definitely like wearing pants in the summer when I can since sometimes I feel like a skimpy top and shorts can be a bit too revealing. I'd totally be down for some silky PJ pants with a tiedye pattern!
