style notes: festive feast edition

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite time of year. it ushers in the official start to the holidays, A Charlie Brown Christmas comes on TV, and the weather is finally cold enough for all the hearty holiday cooking. Christmas can feel anticlimactic after a month of holidazing, but i'll always love the giddiness and anticipation that begins in late November.

this year i'm spending Thanksgiving with my boyfriend's family. while i was packing, it occurred to me that there's a bit of an art to dressing for the festive feast.

the most important foundation piece here is the all-purpose holiday pant, aka Spandexy Eating Pants. they go with pretty much anything, and - most importantly - allow you to focus on the festivities, family gossip, and food. my lululemons that i wear for yoga are perfect, as are the j.crew pixies, and a pair of Vince leggings that i've had for four years and are still going strong.

this Thanksgiving, i'm pairing my eating pants with a slouchy-chic, tunic-length knit in my favorite classic stripe. i really like the idea of adding a festive statement necklace and some dressy-yet-comfy Ferragamos to keep things from looking too casual. finally, topping things off with my favorite oversized Acne scarf and a velvety PS1.

holiday feasting aside, i'm also donating to ongoing Sandy relief efforts this week. feeling immensely grateful this year for so many things, and thinking of those who are less fortunate.

finally, to all of my wonderful readers: a great big thank you for visiting, commenting, and making LAM a lovely space for community, inspiration, and style!

p.s.: some major promos going on at shopbop this holiday week!

what are you doing for Thanksgiving? what are you wearing?

  1. This is the perfect outfit for Thanksgiving dinner. All that waistline stretch below the table and pretty necklace above...to flatter your face.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. I don't know if you mentioned this before, but did you get the PS1? How is it holding up? I'm wearing sweatpants and a fleece shirt, we're a casual family. Plus, with 5 dogs between all of us, I've learned to avoid leggings like the plague.

  3. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia, so it's just another week/weekend for us here in Oz. I am inspired though to cook TG themed food this weekend - maybe a turkey breast.
    Happy Thanksgiving :)

  5. Snort! You know you've found a good style blog when they make outfits based around "eating pants". I adore this. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving around these parts, but my sister and I always eat Christmas dinner wearing our prettiest outfits - only to disappear and reappear in sweatpants afterwards. If I could find a Christmas-friendly eating pant I'd be all over it. Sequin encrusted yoga pants? Sequin Pajama Jeans(™)? I feel like this is a market someone needs to get into ;)

  6. I like the sound of Spandexy Eating Pants - fantastic. We don't have Thanksgiving here but our next celebration now is Crimbo. Spandexy eating pants, here I come. And I love that necklace for that extra oomph to the outfit. Strangely enough for a very non-pink girl - I like the look of that scarf. Gosh - I'm so easily swayed by pretty things. I hope you have a lovely time. Eat lots.

  10. Happy late Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! This year, I wore one of the dresses I got from the Steven Alan sample sale. I wish I had gone the more casual route with stretchy pants and slouchy sweater...that would have been waaay more comfortable after stuffing myself silly.
