"You've got to invest in the world, you've got to read, you've got to go to art galleries, you've got to find out the names of plants. You've got to start to love the world and know about the whole genius of the human race. We're amazing people."  –Vivienne Westwood

foundations: the grey cashmere sweater

a few weeks ago, my boyfriend bought this grey cashmere sweater. it's the perfect hybrid of the humble sweatshirt and a thick, luxe knit. he's now wearing it nonstop, and i've been eyeing it enviously ever since.

february essentials

now that all the snow has melted, i'm defaulting to the trusty Marant boots again. a long day of running around the city last week reminded me that these are still the most comfortable midheel shoes for people who actually take the subway and need to walk from point A to point B. as for the rest – Marant scarf, favorite leather jacket, indigo skinnies, mini crossbody – they have certainly proven their mettle as all-time best buys.

what are your best buys?

foundations: luxe essentials for less

i did an inspiration post on the late, great Tina Chow two years ago, and i love that these simple style essentials are all cornerstones of Everlane's chic and well-priced collection. high on my wishlist right now is a slouchy navy cashmere cardigan, as well as some silk blouses (those rounded collars!) and slouchy tees.

have you shopped here? what are your favorites?

p.s. if anyone has the tees, how is the fit?

edit 2/15: i just received my first order! see my review here.

review: the heavy-duty snow boots

gearing up for the snowpocalypse this weekend with my Sorel boots

it's that time of year again: the annual NYC snowpocalypse. a few years ago, i finally had it with slippery soles and soggy, cold toes, and got myself a pair of Sorels, a.k.a. The Serious Snow Boots. if you're looking for a pair, read on for my review!

january essentials

a bitterly cold and blustery January means i've been living in dependable winter workhorses: my giant Acne wool scarf, heavy-duty parkacozy stripey knits, indigo skinnies, and favorite LR boots (more colors).

how's winter where you are? what are your essentials right now?

P.S.: commenter Wendy asked about where to find great knits - right now there are a ton of lovely Vince cashmere and wool knits on major sale
