wardrobe planning: holiday/travel 2014 essentials

source: tumblr

October and November have been a bit of a blur this year. my inspiration/mood this holiday season: laidback essentials that go from airport to holiday gatherings to Christmas morning.

i've been a bit remiss in blogging lately, but a busy two months means things are finally winding down before Christmas.

thankfully, putting together holiday looks and packing for our annual family holiday visit will be pretty straightforward, thanks to a mix of my go-to favorites and some new additions to the wardrobe planning list.

1. a simple silk camisole / a year-round foundation piece, this one. give me a silk spaghetti strap tank any day!
2. a sparkly ear cuff / love love love. wore mine to a recent holiday party and got a bunch of compliments. just enough statement bling for pretty much any occasion.
3. a mini red classic quilted bag / as someone who has lusted after the vintage little red Chanel bag for years, this is a chic and fun way to 'test drive' the style. the mini size and crossbody strap is perfect for evening.
4. easy travel/lounge slip-ons / i have two pairs. possibly the most stylish airport-easy slip-ons out there.
5. broken-in black skinny jeans / been on a black denim kick all fall.
6. a cozy chunky pullover / throwing this on over everything lately.
7. an olive parka / official outerwear of my fall / winter.
8. a chic pearl necklace / i love the look and feel of this long version as well. i always have a soft spot for pearls.

what are your holiday plans this year? what's on your list?

  1. I'm leaving for my Christmas holiday on Friday next week and will spend nine whole days with my family. I will have SEVENTEEN days off in total, which sounds so completely amazing that I am still not sure I have just made the whole thing up in my head. I have struggled with my wish list this year because I honestly can't think of a single thing that I would want anyone to buy me. Or wait, I want shearling slippers, but everybody keeps telling me it's a boring wish so I'm sure I won't get any!

  2. I wish you wouldn't hide the picture and details of each item behind referral links. it's hard to read your posts in reader and have to open all 9 links to get through the post. it's making your blog (formerly one of my faves!) borderline unreadable.

    1. hi! sorry for the late reply here, somehow your comment was stuck in spam (been having some issues with spam comments). first off, i appreciate the feedback. i try to put together posts like this in as clean a format as i can manage, so hopefully you're able to browse it easier with another reader (feedly?) or just visit the homepage directly. also, while some of the links are affiliate links, not all of them are. as a rule i always try to link to products that i think are genuinely good and useful for my readers. i hope this clarifies some matters! :)

  3. As someone who doesn't have pierced ears, I am loving the ear cuff trend. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), I have no fancy events to attend this holiday season, so haven't had a need for anything that blingy. I bit the bullet on the Annabel Ingall crossbody in Plum, and am excited to fit it into my winter wardrobe. However, my current wallet won't fit in it, so there is that tiny problem... Think you'll do a post on nice minimalist wallets anytime soon? ;)

    1. Tammy! of course, that's such a good idea for a post :) i think i'll do this in the next installation of Ask LAM. so glad you got the AI trio - how are you liking it? i've packed mine on every trip i've gone on this year...

  6. The only concrete plans I have for the holidays are to eat and eat and eat! My mom and I actually went shopping several months ago at Woodbury Commons outlets for Christmas. It was quite a while ago, so it will almost feel like I've never seen my presents before! Seriously though, it's the best way to make sure she doesn't spend money on stuff I don't want. There's a pair of winter boots I've been dying to wear but she absolutely would not let me have them before Christmas.

The only thing I might buy for myself as a last thing before 2015 are washed black jeans, maybe by Frame denim.

  7. My only holiday plans are to (finally) go home and catch up with family and friends! I only return for the holidays now that I've graduate from school (no more summer breaks), so I'm really excited to see everyone. As far as my wardrobe list is concerned, I think I've got everything I want checked off, except a pair of black skinny jeans and the Lillian Weejuns from Bass... after I track down some reviews. I may also need a pair of thinsulate bean boots depending on how winter plays out.

    Happy holidays!
