lookbook: denim on denim

les antimodernes denim on denim
lately i've been really feeling Canadian le smoking with my favorite denim madewell shirt // vintage belt // current/elliott jeans // a chunky statement necklace and trusty Marant boots.

your thoughts re: denim on denim? and what have been your go-tos this month?

  1. This is absolutely, positively, utterly unfair. Firstly that you can pull of denim on denim the way Jackie O would if she were alive today and going to shake hands with Texans, or out shopping for yet another scarf. And secondly, that I wouldn't have the foggiest idea how to wear those Marant boots. So kudos to you.

PS- I don't know if it's my love for white or the aesthetic lovechild of art deco and German architecture, but perhaps these necklaces would be more of a fitting statement with denim? ;)

    1. ha! very sweet of you. the Marant boots are the easiest thing to wear in my closet. have you tried wearing with cuffed jeans? i wear them into spring and summer with shorts and dresses too.

    2. Oh my gosh cuffing!! Silly me. See shorts and dresses absolutely not. I'm no cool girl. But cuffed jeans? Could totally see that for myself. But then would have to justify the purchase to the amount of cuffed jean outfits haha

  2. I actually almost went for that look this morning but then couldn't quite handle it and dialed it back from blue jeans to black jeans, which most definitely does not qualify for Canadian tuxedo status. One day I might get there. (Also you'll be proud of me - I bought my first ever leopard-print item and am currently boggled by how the print goes with 95% of my wardrobe. YOU WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG. Maybe I'll do the Canadian tuxedo with leopard-print accent tomorrow.)

  3. Ah, love denim on denim forever and always! I've yet to find the perfect denim shirt, but the way I wear it a lot of the time is a dark wash denim shift dress + a lightweight, light wash denim jacket.

Also, "Canadian Le Smoking?" genius phrase.

  4. Denim shirts really aren't my thing, but you look great :) I like the proportions and the tan belt is a nice touch.

  5. I have so much trouble just wearing blue jeans on their own - I wore a pair yesterday and I think that must have been their first outing in 6 months - so kudos on you for pulling off double denim! I love the look, but I'm too much of a black jeans kind of girl to wear it myself :)

    1. blue/blue and blue/black are both favorites of mine. in spite of all the sticklers to 'sartorial rules' :)

  6. You look wonderful - love dark blue with a touch of brown anyway and your necklace is a perfect touch. I would love to try it but I don't have a denim shirt so I may use a chambray one instead but for me I think I would have to add even more girly touches such as pointy kitten heels and a little vintage bag.

  8. Looks great on you! I couldn't pull it off, but I will try it with a dark blue chambray shirt. Thanks for the idea, it's what I'll be wearing today (on Mothers day), good for having kids in tow :)

  9. I'm not much of a fan of denim shirts or denim on denim, but you wear this so well. You look lovely and the necklace adds a touch of elegance to the look. So few can pull this off.

  10. Hi there! This is a great look! I actually just started to incorporate this look into my weekend outfits. Its so easy yet has a nice put together look. I recently put together a denim on denim look on my blog - http://snappylemon.com/cupcake-adventures/

I'm curious to hear what other shoes you style your denim on denim looks with.

    Take Care!
    Jenn.
