review: Emerson Fry vheels and slangbacks

so thanks to some lightning fast shipping, my Emerson vheels and kitten heel slangbacks (all full price shoes currently 50% off with CUPOFJO50) arrived today. i've been a longtime fan of EF's elegant and timelessly chic collections, but this was my first time ordering, so i had high hopes.

says the girl who usually doesn't do heels: really loving my EF vheel slingbacks – surprisingly comfy and super chic with cuffed jeans

overall design:
first off, both pairs of shoes are just beautiful. the pitch of the heel, the shape of the toeline, the details all attest to the fact that a woman who really wears heels designed these. yes to supporting women designers who design for themselves – and other women.

quality and make:
the leather and stitching on both the vheels and the kitten heels are really nicely done. the all-leather construction (uppers, lining, sole) and stacked-wood heel on the vheels check all the craftsmanship boxes. it's also nice that the shoes are made in Portugal – something that i don't see very often with today's mostly made in Italy/France/China brands.

feeling rather like an off-duty dancer in my long-wishlisted EF kitten heel slangbacks

shape and cut:
unlike many high-heel point-toe shoes, there's no pinching in the toebox. i really love the subtle 'V' shape on the vheels as well. they're cut very comfortably for the heel height.

as for the slangbacks, there's just the right bit of toe cleavage, which i quite like (a shoe in this style could easily look frumpy otherwise). there's a modern-day Audrey Hepburn spirit to these, and i have a feeling they'll become enduring staples for my wardrobe year-round.

fit:
i'm usually a normal width US 6.5, occasionally a 7, and i ordered 37 in both of these and the fit runs true. go with the EF sizing chart here.

some sizes are selling out, so if you've been eyeing either of these, i'd highly recommend getting them with the current 50% off promo (good for all full price EF shoes for the next week).

i hope this review is helpful – let me know if you have any EF shoes, or if you get anything from this sale!

  1. I could not resist the Paulo Loafer - Khaki Leather on sale ! I think I was very lucky as it looks that I may have ordered the last pair in my size! You had an influence on the decision and passed the sale info ... thank you!

  2. i couldn't resist the paolo loafers either! i looked online for reviews and ordered a 39 and later on a 38. i am usually an 8 and very rarely a 8.5 and don't fall into a bucket on their sizing chart. i also called them and got the same answer =/ at least i can get store credit on the ones that don't fit!

    2. Irene, how is the width on the loafers? Do they seem like they will stretch out? I'm contemplating getting them but am hesitant because there's no reviews anywhere.

Ah, totally not trying to spam your blog miss sophie, but this is the first place I've seen anyone mention these loafers! Thanks for doing a review on her other shoes!

  3. I ordered the kitten heels in black suede yesterday and cannot wait to get them! Your style is completely inspiring to me, and thanks to you, my wardrobe is shrinking yet getting more wearable and enjoyable with each change> Thanks for all of the tips and reviews you post- especially the seasonal essentials. 4. The vheels look great on you and I really like the in depth review. Sounds like EF shoes are a pair worth purchasing. I'm not reeeallly in the market for shoes right now (I currently have two new pairs of heels en route to me) but I think I'll consider getting a pair perhaps from next season, depends on the styles.

Would be good to know how they are going perhaps a few months on?

  5. I also grabbed the paolo loafers! I found them a bit snug - I'm a 7.5 -8 and ordered a 38, but I think they will become a bit less stiff with wear. I'm really tempted by some of the wood flatform sandals. They look so simple and chic for summer!

  6. I really like the kitten heels. So dainty and feminine. It's good to read reviews like yours because oftentimes, especially with having to deal with international shipping, returning items can be a real headache.

  7. Oh I love the first one on you so much more, its a bit sassy no? :) Okay, I swear I mustered up all the courage in the world to give slingbacks a try finally for maybe the first time in my life since prancing around in my mother's decades ago, but honestly I still cannot find a style or design that is comfortable and non-matronly! I don't know why its so hard. But bravo to you doll, looks fab in just the jeans and tank alone...

  8. "off-duty dancer"- I can't help but LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this.

EF shoes always appear to be very well made. They also also remind me a bit of Loeffler Randall who I think is doing really great things. Both pairs of shoes are very versatile.

  9. I'm paying dearly for my non-regular reading: I have had these shoes (the marigold v-heels, and the python, to be specific) on my wishlist for months...and here I am just a few days past the sale. I'm somewhat brokenhearted but so grateful for the review...if these are truly comfortable, at some point I will steel myself and buy a pair! Thank you, miss s, and I'll try to check in more often!
