wardrobe building 101: the perfect convertible clutch

the perfect convertible evening clutch is one of those wardrobe essentials that's curiously hard to find.

it's a bit of a goldilocks game. evening bag options are often too small, too much bling, too much logo, or just too expensive given the cost per wear ratio. one of my pet peeves is the pretty but purely ornamental evening clutch/minaudiere that can barely fit a phone, lipstick, and my keys.

this Botkier Bleecker clutch is on sale (more colors here), and checks all my boxes for a universal evening bag.

the pebbled leather is durable but soft and roomy, and the overall design looks minimal but elegant – suitable for a variety of occasions and dress codes. it looks more expensive than it is – always a great X factor when it comes to accessories. and the addition of the two shoulder straps (one wide strap that looks cool and sportif, one slim leather strap that's got a more formal vibe) is genius and a great value.

hope this helps if you're shopping around for a versatile evening bag!

do you have a go-to for special occasions?

  1. I have my Celine trio in both black and burgundy, works perfect for both day with the strap and evening without the strap.
Since I don't use an evening clutch so often I could not justify buying an expensive one. Could also recommend MonPurse and their pouch, the leather is wonderful and the monogram is the perfect icing :)

    1. i've not heard of MP but will have to check them out :)

  2. I have a convertible clutch by Margiela that I scored during the crazy Saks Fifth Avenue sales from years ago. I don't have the occasion to really use it, but still cannot bear to part with it given the simple design and the perfect length.
