wardrobe planning: summer 2015

dreaming of this lately // caftan living

summer dressing is always an exercise in restraint and editing. i think i'm getting better at it though, year after year. making less trend-based mistakes and staying more true to what i'm genuinely comfortable wearing. this season's wardrobe planning focuses on carefree, easy silhouettes that add color and print personality to my more monochrome f/w foundations.

on the list:
tall gladiator sandals (also here) // the coolest sandals of summer. and way more versatile than they look.
linen tees // i'd been living in my two linen tees for several summers now, time to stock up!
an abstract silk dress // love the modern art print and seamed details.
a print jumpsuit // all about this one-piece this season. the gateway jumpsuit from last month has paved the way for a summery printed one.
mid-height summery wedges // still wishlisting these...it's slightly comical at this point how many wedges i've looked at and rejected for one reason or another.
toms // one of the most comfortable and practical shoes i own – i think it's time for a fresh pair in white or red.
black jersey maxi dress // easy and chic and completely essential to wear/pack/slip on for the weekend.

purchased:
Band of Outsiders navy blazer // the sad news of the company folding made me realize this was my last chance to snag one of their iconic schoolboy blazers.
the minimal sandal heels // the best budget alternative to the chic Givenchy versions.
elegant cotton t-shirts // all about the drop-shoulder.

recent favorites on repeat:

  1. For me, this season will be about accessories. At the top of the list is a cool pair of shades (I've done a good job not losing my cheap ones, so maybe I can trust myself with a nicer pair?) and the perfect clog sandals. I splurged on the gorgeous Miansai screw cuff this weekend and haven't gone a day without wearing it. As for clothing, I've been eyeing this casual, breezy shirt: https://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/SHIRTSTOPS/otherboyshirts/PRDOVR~C4393/C4393.jsp.

  2. I have the Kate Moss video bookmarked for later, can't wait to watch it. I just purchased a pair of light-wash jeans for summer, and also to wear to work on casual Fridays since all my other light-wash jeans have rips and tears in them (mostly intentional). Other than that I'm eyeing a few designer things that are just now going on sale, but not enough markdown yet for my wallet! I've got my bookmarks ready though for those price drops ;)

  3. Decided I needed to add some pattern and got the EF caftan in the picture above at their outlet sale. Plus trying out a couple of maxi dresses from Everlane that I can hopefully pair with jackets for the office and by themselves for the weekends with sandals. Feeling the need for an oversized black or white blouse of some type as well.

  4. Those Rachel Comey sandals are mid-heel for you?!? OMG!!! Totally sky-high for me, but I'm tall and have foot problems. Then again, totally flat doesn't work anymore, either...which makes me sad.
I bought this top from Madewell, and it's perfect! https://www.madewell.com/browse/single_product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441771575&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302026148&nav_type=BROWSE&bmUID=kT1yrzo
Also, looking for a great pair of crisis-cross slides with a teensy bit of heel. Might be impossible!
