barbour season

my barbour bedale coat is finally broken in and fits perfectly. not sure when i'll need to get it re-waxed, but i rather like the matte texture of it now that it's been worn around for a year or so. it's surprisingly warm even though i opted not to get the zip-in liner. does anyone have it/is it worth getting? currently wearing my leather jacket or a cardigan underneath does the trick.

  1. I am looking to buy some black boots for the winter. I live in western mass so snow is inevitable. I love the boots your wearing. Do you have any suggestions for cute, waterproof, boots that work well in the snow? If they could go from skinny jean weekend look to young professional work week even better.

    Looking to stay under $200

  2. christina - i think the boots you're describing are the holy grail of boots! ;) under $200 is kind of difficult, but you can score a great pair of Frye boots or even Rachel Comeys on sale for around that price if you scour online boutiques/sample sales! i think waterproofing will require spraying the leather with some protectant, but you should probably check with your shoe repair person about that. La Cannadienne is a brand that specializes in waterproof boots of many styles, though - definitely check those out! good luck :)

  3. Miss Sophie, did you buy the "classic" Bedale with Sylkoil, or did you guy the normal waxed Bedale ("active")? Yours looks great! I'm thinking about whether I want to get it in 36 or 38. Do you have any sizing suggestions? Thanks.

  4. viv - i got the classic bedale with the sylkoil in navy. the bedales are unisex sizing, but they're cut for men, so they definitely run large in the shoulder through the arms. i would size down. i got the 34 from orvis and was swimming in it - then i managed to return it after i called the madison ave Barbour store in NY right when they got in a limited stock shipment of size 30s and 32s. if you can, definitely see if you can try on in person - Orvis carries them, as did J.crew last season. do update me if you decide to get one! i don't usually splurge on coats but i think i'm going to be wearing my barbour for years to come...so it's definitely a worthy investment.

  8. hey amanda - not at all! i'm 5'4 and i find the unisex cut of the bedale to be generous, so go with the chest measurement for either the 30 or 32 to see which would work best for you. hope that helps! :)
