wardrobe planning: chic summer basics under $100

via

a good basic is hard to find. the great ones are simple, but stand on their own. my style shorthand for July are favorites that make getting dressed as easy as 1-2-3.

favorite inexpensive summer basics:

1. muscle tees // (in S) a little Thelma and Louise...really feeling this tomboy essential right now.
2. slouchy jersey tanks // (in XS) been wearing these regularly all year. the charcoal grey is still my favorite.
3. summer LBD // an essential that i also always pack for summer travel.
4. simple maxi dress // a yearly staple. nothing beats the elegant vibe of a long dress on summer nights.
5. toms slipons // (order half size down) surprisingly sophisticated, and one of the most comfortable shoes i own.
6. white chucks // old school cool, functional, excellent tan enhancer.

what is your summer uniform right now?

P.S.: the best inexpensive summer sandals.

    1. nope. (see my editorial policy for more details.) all opinions are mine and so long as everlane continues to make great pieces that i like, i'll feature them here.

  2. So far, white tops and mostly denim. I got both versions of the Langley tank top, and I'm sure they'll fit in fine.

Thinking I may also need to replace my Everlane sandals (last year's issue that are wearing out) with some two strap slides from J. Crew. Not sure how well they'll wear since they don't look very substantial. Eh. We'll see.

    1. oh please give an update on those jcrew slides if you get them. i've found jcrew shoes to be hit or miss; some of their heels i've tried are just not comfy at all, but i also have some ballet flats that are great.

  3. Summer basics have been easy. I've been wearing chinos from UNIQLO and jeans from Bluer Denim that I've bought before paired with spaghetti tanks I got on sale here either via H&M or Zara. I LOVE everything new at Everlane: the cotton lawn shirts, Langley Fox tanks etc. but I think I'm good with the combo I have. Also this great new midi skirt I got goes great with crop tops and will transition nicely to fall.

  4. Everlane seems to be such a great source for solid and quality basics at a reasonable price. Too bad they don't ship on this side of the Atlantic...

  5. Uniqlo skinny jeans, cropped striped tees, linen or oxford buttondowns. I also have quite a few pairs of JCrew shorts. I like to pair long sleeves with shorts and sandals in the summer. I also always wear a large sun hat. Even though Everlane ships to Canada, I'm waiting for a chance to ship to the US because of the extra duties, taxes, and shipping costs. The cotton lawn shirts look great.

  6. Argh heat, my perennial enemy. I LOVE the look of the muscle tank because so many tanks have necklines that are way too low, but again, I don't want to order from Everlane because my last experience with a third-party shipping service resulted in credit card fraud. I found some great t-shirts and tanks at Uniqlo though, and an excellent summer dress in a midi-length that I want to wear almost every day. Your list is pretty much my uniform.
